About Withington Primary School
We are a small, rural school set in beautiful Herefordshire countryside. We have just under 70 children on roll at the moment meaning that we have superb class sizes with no more than 25 children in any one class.
Because of our small size, our school is made up of 4 mixed age classes:
- Foundation class: which comprises of our nursery and reception aged children,
- year 1 and 2,
- year 3 and 4,
- and year 5 and 6.
We ensure that there is excellent provision for all our learners at every stage of their development through careful planning and differentiation to cater for individual children's needs, and even find that the nature of our mixed age classes mean that the expectations of the younger children are raised and they progress onto higher levels quicker.
We have been federated with Aylestone Business and Enterprise College since September 2010. This partnership is extremely successful and means that as well as joint management of the two schools providing a seamless link between primary and secondary education, the children here at Withington have specialist teaching in a number of subjects and opportunities that most primary children simply do not have! At the moment for example, all children from reception to year 6 have a weekly French lesson, and children in Key stage two have specialist teaching in humanities and music.
